eSignLive ApproveIt 4.6 Deters E-Signature Fraud

September 11, 2000

Montreal, Qc, September 12, 2000 — The latest version of Silanis Technology’s leading electronic signature and approval software deters electronic signature fraud by visibly demonstrating a signature’s validity the moment a document is opened and alerting recipients of any modifications or copying of signatures, Silanis Technology Inc. President Tommy Petrogiannis announced today. By making e-signing even more secure and transparent, ApproveIt 4.6’s heightened authentication features will boost user confidence in the technology.

Previously, recipients of documents signed with ApproveIt had to physically authenticate them to assure the integrity of the contents and the signature attached to them. With version 4.6, documents are automatically authenticated on opening and, if unauthorized changes have been made, the signature is visibly crossed out and a red “X” placed in the signature box. If an attempt at fraud was made by copying a signature from one document and pasting into another, the signature also is visibly crossed out and a “!” placed in the signature box. If the document remains unchanged post-signing, a green checkmark appears beside the signature to certify its validity. In cases where authorized modifications have been made, recipients will be alerted to check the comments alongside the appropriate signature in the Intelligent Signature Box™.

“With E-SIGN passing into law October 1, consumers want to be reassured that their e-signatures can’t be used fraudulently, and that a document signed by them can’t be changed and passed off later as the real thing,” said Petrogiannis. “While ApproveIt always managed the authenticity of a document and warned users if changes had been made, version 4.6 adds an extra layer of user-comfort by visibly demonstrating the validity of a signed document the minute it’s opened and alerting recipients to modifications.”

By allowing users to apply intentional changes to a document, take responsibility for them, and visually notify others that modifications have been made, ApproveIt 4.6 mimics a paper-based process where individuals apply their initials to any modifications they’ve made. When combined with the ability to add multiple and sectional signatures to a document, ApproveIt 4.6 truly emulates a paper-based approval process in an electronic environment.

“The ability to make changes and add comments before signing a document is what differentiates ApproveIt from a simple signing product,” said Petrogiannis. “ApproveIt’s unique strength is that it enables multiple people to securely sign complex electronic documents and forms using the same approval process and business procedures they’ve been using for years with pen and paper. The only difference is that they’re doing it electronically with visual results that may, in fact, be more secure than traditional pen and paper methods.”

ApproveIt supports Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, JetForm FormFlow, PureEdge, XML and HTML for $149 USD. Version 4.6 is backward compatible with previous versions, and will be available for MS Word and MS Excel in October 2000. Support for other software will be released by December 2000.
