OneSpan is looking for an Embedded Software Developer to join our team in Brussels, Belgium. This position is open to candidates who have their residence in Belgium.

The ‘Embedded Software Development Engineer’ will develop low-level firmware for secure devices that will be produced in high volume quantities. He/she will work together with other embedded firmware developers as well as embedded electronics hardware development engineers and will be involved in the complete lifecycle of our DIGIPASS products, including specification, design, development, testing and maintenance.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain system architectures that facilitate straightforward and reusable application development

  • Design and develop low-level system and peripheral drivers according to the specifications

  • Contribute to technical specifications

  • Interface with embedded electronics hardware development engineers and embedded software application development engineers

  • Perform system unit testing, product maintenance and bug solving


  • You have obtained a Bachelor degree in Computer Science (or similar through experience), several years of experience in low-level embedded software development and a strong interest in electronics

  • Required experience / technical skills:

    • Experience with small footprint microcontrollers

    • Experience with embedded ‘low-level’ (system and peripheral driver) programming in C and assembler

    • Knowledge of embedded operating systems like Linux, QNX, FreeRTOS is an asset.

    • Experience with (low) power management

    • Experience with python is an asset

    • Knowledge of:

      • Microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-Mx)

      • Basic electronics

      • Wireless interfaces (BLE, NFC, WIFI)

      • Embedded interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C)

      • Embedded systems limitations

      • Secure element / smart card interfaces

      • Embedded development environments (IAR, KEIL)

      • Source version management (SVN, GIT)

  • You are a problem solver with good analytical and communication skills

  • “Accuracy”, “quality-minded”, “pro-activity” and “result driven” are key strengths

  • You have a structured, but sometimes pragmatic approach

  • You are proactive, a team player and you have a learning attitude

  • You are fluent in English (reading, spoken and written). Knowledge of Dutch is an asset
