September 20, 2001

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Illinois and BRUSSELS, Belgium- September 20, 2001- VASCO (Nasdaq NM & Nasdaq Europe: VDSI; www.vasco.com), a global provider of enterprise-wide security products that support remote access security and protect e-business and e-commerce data and transactions for over 600 corporations, has been named to Deloitte & Touche's prestigious "Fast 50" Program for Greater Chicagoland, a ranking of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in the area. Rankings are based on five-year revenue growth, from 1996 - 2000. The program is sponsored by Deloitte & Touche, in association with Jenner & Block, Lexis Nexis, and the following participating organizations: the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, Internet Executives Club, World Business Chicago, Illinois Coalition, and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. On September 20, 2001, Deloitte & Touche announced the ranked Greater Chicagoland Technology Fast 50 list. VASCO came in ranked at #26.

VASCO's President and CEO, Mario Houthooft, credits the company's 175% revenue growth over the past five years to the increased demand for VASCO’s authentication, authorization and administration (AAA) security products as businesses move to the next level of integrating e-commerce objectives into their business practices. “As they do so, the need for AAA security becomes an important element not only for maintaining the security of corporate data and networks, but also as a tool for enabling secure transactions over the internet,” explained Houthooft. “There are more than 600 businesses worldwide including over 170 leading banks, representing a total of more than six million users, who are turning to VASCO because they realize that security is a best business practice.”

“Today, there are more than 22,000 technology companies in the United States, many of whom are competing for the same markets here in the states and worldwide,” said Tim McCarty, Partner-in-Chief, Technology & Communications Practice. “The Greater Chicagoland Technology Fast 50 winners have proven that they can compete successfully by consistently delivering technological wonders. We at Deloitte & Touche commend VASCO for having the vision and determination to become one of the 50 fastest growing technology companies in Greater Chicagoland.”

To qualify for the Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 1996 and $1,000,000 in 2000, must be a public or private company headquartered in Greater Chicagoland, and be a "technology company" defined as a company that produces technology, manufactures a technology product, or devotes a high percentage of effort to research and development of technology. According to World Business Chicago, the Greater Chicagoland area is composed of a nine-county region that accounts for around 70% of Illinois’ business, with a GDP of $280 billion, and encompasses more than 10,000 information technology companies.

Winners of the 21 regional Fast 50 programs in the United States are automatically entered in the Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 500 program, which ranks the nation's top 500 fastest growing technology companies.
