NW_20060920_en_VASCO First Company to Receive Full Belgian EPCI Certification for its Digipass 810 Card Reader
OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., and BRUSSELS, Belgium, September 20, 2006 - VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (Nasdaq: VDSI) (www.vasco.com), the global number one vendor of strong user authentication products to the financial sector, today announced that it is the first vendor to receive the full EPCI (Electronic Payment Certification Institute) certification.
VASCO already was the first vendor to receive the provisional EPCI certificate in 2005. Now a year later, due to the successful deployment of Digipass 810 to several Belgian banks, the Electronic Payment Certification Institute has decided to give the first full EPCI certification for unconnected readers to VASCO. The high acceptance in Belgian banks and technical stability of Digipass 810 have also contributed to this full certification.
The EPCI certification for VASCO's Digipass stands for the authentication functions allowing a cardholder to authenticate himself/sign transactions and to check the card's Proton balance. The certification also includes MasterCard and VISA EMV-CAP specifications.
"The fact that we are the first vendor to be fully EPCI certified, adds a crucial competitive advantage to our offering to the Belgian market," said Jan Valcke, VASCO's President and COO. "Over 25 million of VASCOs Digipass are used by financial institutions worldwide. This EPCI certificate again proves VASCO's leadership in the strong authentication card reader segment."
