OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill., and ZURICH, Switzerland, November 4, 2008 - VASCO Data Security International, Inc. (Nasdaq: VDSI) (www.vasco.com ), a leading software security company specializing in authentication products, announces Digipass 865 at Cartes 2008 in Paris. Digipass 865 is a USB connectable card reader which can be used in connected and unconnected mode. Its large 8 line display enables “what you see is what you sign” functionality. In connected mode, Digipass 865 applications can be securely and remotely downloaded into the card reader. Digipass 865 prototype will be on display at Cartes 2008 in Paris and will be available before the end of 2008.

Digipass 865 can be used in connected and unconnected mode. In unconnected mode it offers strong authentication and e-signature capability and is ideal for use in environments with high security requirements including PKI/digital signature, secure PIN verification, corporate network access, e-banking and e-commerce transactions.

When used in connected mode it can be used for a number of PKI-based applications, such as e-ID card or e-health applications. While connected, Digipass 865 can securely and remotely download applications into the reader.

Digipass 865 has an 8 line display, allowing 21 characters per line. This advanced display is set to become the new standard for e-signature. It allows the user to validate significant data on the Digipass 865 display before signing the transaction. This “what you see is what you sign” functionality offers an additional level of security for performing electronic transactions over the Internet.

The use of Digipass 865 requires no extra personalization by the network owner and efficiently leverages exiting investments in EMV infrastructure for financial institutions. Furthermore Digipass 865 is backwards compatible, as a result it seamlessly works with older applications with fewer security measures, thus providing a migration path for existing customers.

Digipass 865 uses a CCID compliant driver and can be used with all standard operating systems, such as Windows, Linux and MacOS. Digipass 865 uses two replaceable AAA batteries. Its 20-key keypad, consisting of 10 numeric keys and 10 function keys, also allows the activation of dedicated operations by pressing the function keys.

“With Digipass 865, VASCO again gives an answer to the ever increasing vulnerability of PC platforms in Internet environments. Static passwords no longer offer sufficient protection for PKI, e-wallet or e-banking applications. More often these applications are exposed to Trojans or key loggers. By entering the PIN code on the pin pad of the Digipass 865 and not on the computer keyboard increased security measures are in place to protect computer users against fraudulent abuse.”, says Jan Valcke, President and COO at VASCO Data Security.
