Electronic Signatures: A Valuable e-ID-enabled Application

Montreal, QC, February 22, 2006 — Silanis Technology, the industry’s most experienced electronic signature provider with more than two million users and consumers in business and government, announced today Mr. Tommy Petrogiannis, President, will present at the European e-ID Card Conference in Brussels, Belgium.  The conference is focused on presenting the issues and challenges of implementing electronic identity strategies facing government and industry in Europe.

Improving eGovernment services is a key initiative for many countries within Europe and establishing electronic identities are fundamental to their successful adoption. A number of Member States have introduced electronic ID card (e-ID) schemes, whilst others are planning to do so. In order to prevent these developments from creating new digital barriers across borders, a set of minimum requirements and common standards must be agreed to enable European e-ID solutions to interoperate. Over the course of the conference, the key players in this market will review the issues and challenges facing government industry and review the possible solutions.

Mr. Petrogiannis will be discussing how electronic signatures enable organizations to quickly leverage their security infrastructure and make use of authentication methods, such as e-ID, by providing a valuable application that ensures processes remain electronic. In addition to maximizing their identity services investment, organizations implementing eSignatures are able to eliminate document shipping & storage, document-in-transit delays, and reduce errors caused by manual QA & re-keying.

Electronic signatures are an essential part of any eGovernment or eBusiness initiative. Without this capability, processes will only be partially automated and will still be burdened by the inconvenience and cost of printing to paper whenever a signature is required. Legislative and technological changes, combined with tightening resources and pressure for better service have driven many organizations to adopt electronic signature solutions for both internal and external-facing processes.

Mr. Petrogiannis will participate in the panel entitled “New services, applications and solutions driven by national e-ID card implementations” scheduled for 9:45AM, Wednesday, February 22. He will focus on the legal, technical, and business issues that should be considered when bringing signing processes online. Three case studies will be used to demonstrate a variety of ways that electronic signatures can easily fit into an existing or evolving security infrastructure.
