Synaptics and eSignLive team up to propel e-signature adoption, Over 30 million laptop users now e-sign ready
Montreal, Qc, September 26, 2000 — Silanis Technology Inc., a leading developer of electronic signature and approval management software, and Synaptics Inc., a technology and market leader of touchpad pointing devices and other human interface technologies, today announced a partnership to integrate Silanis ApproveIt® Electronic Signature Technology Software with Synaptics’ TouchPad™ to provide millions of laptop users worldwide with the ability to e-sign right away.
By incorporating an OEM version of ApproveIt’s (ApproveIt PC-OEM version) electronic signing features with the Synaptics easy-to-use capacitive touch-sensing technology, the partnership gives laptop users a simple and convenient way to apply a single electronic signature to Microsoft© Word and Excel documents. The integration promises to have a significant impact on e-signature adoption, as Synaptics is the leading supplier of touch-sensing technology to major notebook manufacturers including ACER, Apple, Compaq, Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, and has shipped over 30 million TouchPads for use in notebook computers to-date.
“Our customers have been asking us to provide e-signing capabilities. Synaptics TouchPad technology combined with Silanis’s ApproveIt electronic signature software is a powerful solution for e-signatures, that will answer their needs.” said Rick McCaskill, Synaptics VP of Business Development. “Combining the strengths of both companies will provide over 30 million current and future Synaptics-enabled notebook users with a reliable and legally binding electronic signature solution without additional hardware costs.”
Synaptics will offer the ApproveIt PC-OEM version to its OEM both as a desktop (touchpad integrated within the keyboard or as a stand alone PC peripheral) or integrated TouchPad Notebook solution. Using the TouchPad as a signature input device, users will be guided through the straightforward process of setting up their password-protected ePersona™ signature file. To e-sign documents, users will only have to tap a finger on the TouchPad to retrieve their ePersona signature. In the case of real-time signing, users can simply sign their name directly on the TouchPad itself.
“With October 1 around the corner and e-signing about to be officially legalized in the United States, businesses are looking for this kind of comprehensive solution to get themselves e-signing today,” said Silanis president Tommy Petrogiannis. “The partnership gives Silanis access to an install base of over 30 million PC users, giving them a competitive edge as they’ll be able to use the Silanis e-signing software directly from their computers.”
