Alex Tan, Account Manager

OneSpan Team,

Meet Alex Tan, Technical Account Manager for APAC, based in OneSpan’s Singapore office

What’s your role at OneSpan and what does a typical day look like?

I have been a Technical Account Manager at OneSpan for more than ten years. My job is to have a clear view of the customer’s technical objectives and assist in both the pre- and post-sales process from a technical perspective. Some of my tasks include presenting and demonstrating OneSpan’s products and solutions to prospects and customers, providing professional services support and advising on strategic partners – you could say I am a Sales Manager’s buddy and helping hand.

Everyone on our Singapore team, including me, wears different hats and serves both banking and enterprise customers. Performing many roles keeps my job varied and interesting.

What motivates you at work?

I love the collaborative environment. The Singapore office feels like a family – I probably see my colleagues more than my wife! As a team, we discuss problems and issues and we often consult with the teams in Europe or the U.S. I really enjoy how supportive and collaborative the culture is at OneSpan.

How do you like working at OneSpan?

It’s great! People may think I’m crazy for staying in the same job for a decade, but the company and the job have evolved a lot over the years. The amount of products and solutions we sell has increased significantly, and so has the number of customer we serve. Staying on top of changes like these and the evolution of the financial services industry requires constant new learning, which is exciting. The pressure is high, but the entire Singapore team embraces the challenge.

What makes this job different?

I enjoy a lot of freedom and flexibility. My direct management and our senior leadership care about the outcome without needing to micromanage. Also, OneSpan is a relatively small company, which means that the work we do has an immediate impact on the company, our customers and revenue growth. The company has customers and teams all over the world, but there is none of the bureaucracy that comes with larger companies.

What’s your advice for those who are new to OneSpan?

It’s easy to succeed at OneSpan if you enjoy working independently yet regrouping and aligning with the global team. Be creative and put yourself out of your comfort zone. Good social skills are an asset too, since you need to talk to different people from other cultures and countries. Work hard with your colleagues and you will experience the satisfaction of achieving your goals together.
