What is your role at OneSpan?

I handle regional sales for our customers in Switzerland and Austria. I’m really enjoying this role. Business analysis, finding opportunities, entering the market and closing deals: these are the best parts of the job.

The job is broad and challenging. The Austrian market is very specific, and customers are very sensitive to pricing. They want a very local approach. It is challenging to do business, but it feels rewarding when we succeed.

How did you end up in the role you are in now?

I started my career as a solutions engineer for a company that built financial market data systems for financial institutions. After that, I had several technical roles in international companies. I moved to London to improve my English skills and to get a flavor for working in a multicultural, international environment. After a few years in a team leader position, I felt I was ready to take the next step, and I moved into my first sales role.

I found pleasure in driving the business forward as a strategic account manager and later as a solution sales specialist. This background helped me when I joined OneSpan about 1.5 year ago. I enjoy using my international expertise and technical knowledge to address customers’ needs.

Why do you like working for OneSpan?

I feel like my input and contributions really make a difference. It’s a matter of being proactive and taking initiative. If you have ideas and want to explore new areas that weren’t explored before, you can make a change.

For example, I was able to redesign the reseller landscape in Switzerland and bring in new partnerships. The direct lines and approachability with our senior leadership team are a big plus. Management can be reached much easier than in previous companies I’ve worked for and this helps to get ideas put into practice. I also like that OneSpan is a mid-sized company yet it’s big in the financial services market.

What are some of your biggest motivators at work?

I like OneSpan’s products and solutions, because they provide real value to end users. You can see the impact of our technology on everyday people, such as when they are using their mobile banking application.

A frictionless experience combined with strong security is needed and appreciated by our end users. I feel like we can bring this to our customers, banks and other financial institutions, so they can better serve their customer base — the end users like you and me. I’ve always appreciated the teamwork and the drive OneSpan has to accomplish large projects together. Recently, we had to complete a large RFP. Different departments with people based all over the world worked together to achieve this.

What qualities do people need to have to be successful here?

As a regional sales manager, you need to be self-motivated, proactive, strategic, and focused on the targets you want to reach. It’s also essential to believe in and be passionate about what you’re selling.
